Book review - Honda/Acura Engine Performance by Mike Kojima
 June 01, 2002 - Shawn Church  (2 Comments)
This latest entrant into the Honda engine building book market is arguably the best yet. Penned by Mike Kojima, magazine writer and engineer with Nissan Motor Corporation, it provides a good look at the basics of Honda engines and really shines on the topic of forced induction. The book, titled Honda/Acura Engine Performance, is finally on shelves, and it is a useful engine theory and technology primer for followers of the big 'H'.

Turbocharging the EJ Civic 1.6L SOHC VTEC
 May 23, 2002 - WongKN  (2 Comments)
Mike bought the car because it was the highest spec'ed EK-Civic available in the local (Malaysian) market at the time. As the top model, it uses the 1.6SOHC VTEC engine, spec'ed to deliver around 125ps. Unfortunately, after a few months driving around, Mike was already feeling a lack of midrange pull from the engine. As a result, he quickly developed a yearning for more power. [Read More]
Turbocharging the EK Civic 1.6L SOHC
 May 23, 2002 - WongKN  (2 Comments)
Later generation Civics especially the 1.6SOHC EK export versions effectively lacks an engine that is commensurate with the rest of the car. As an overall package, the 1.6SOHC Civics really cries out for a more capable engine. [Read More]

Stock B16A Dynos
 May 21, 2002 - WongKN
In my last Beyond Stock article, I looked at the power of a nearly stock automatic B16A, used on an EK4. That has allowed us to establish that a stock automatic B16A will dyno at around 110ps at the wheels. Continuing on that article, here I will be looking at manual B16As and to establish how much they will dyno at the wheels in stock form. [Read More]
EK4 Civic SiR Auto Dyno
 May 21, 2002 - WongKN
In 1996, Singapore along with a few other countries had the unique honour of receiving the EK4 Civic SiR into its domestic model range. This was the first time since its introduction that Civic type SiRs are available in the export market; the manual versions generating 170ps and automatic versions generating 155ps. [Read More]
Project: Modifying the 1590cc SOHC PGM-Fi Engine
 May 21, 2002 - WongKN
For a number of years, the 1590cc SOHC PGM-Fi engine has been powering the top Civic models in Malaysia. Recently Aerotech, HKS representative for Malaysia asked me an interesting question: what would be a typical Civic 1.6 owner's budget for an initial modification package? [Read More]

Mike has been a TOVW regular for many years. Recently on a business trip to KL, he drove his black EG9 here. Once business matters are covered properly Mike made an appointment with Aerotech here to dyno his car, principally to know the power he is generating at the wheels. [Read More]

 May 14, 2002 - WongKN
In our last few Beyond Stock updates, we have been focussing on the Civic. In particular, we did a special look to establish reference figures for stock Civic SiRs, both automatic and manual. To continue this thread, I decided to look at stock DC Integras, i.e. the 1993-current generation. [Read More]
Project: Gen3 JDM Integra Si-VTEC
 May 14, 2002 - WongKN
The JDM Honda Integra changed generation in early 1993. The new model, coded DB for 4-door and DC for 3-door received a body revision and quad-projector headlights. The most significant change however was the engine upgrade, from the 1.6l B16A to a longer stroke 1.8l DOHC VTEC B18C with a new intake manifold. [Read More]
