Suspension

These Michelins, while good for a smooth and quiet ride, were absolutely terrible at the drag strip. Though nicely sized at 215-50-17, they did not fare very well in the twisties either. They were lacking in ultimate grip and the soft sidewalls resulted in a casual turn-in feel.

cl_oil_filter.jpg (60412 bytes)
With the front right tire off, it's very easy to see the oil filter. Turning the wheel to the right will allow easy access to the oil filter. This is great for Do It Yourselfers.

Though the brake rotors are appropriately sized, there is no mistaking that the CL-S is a heavy car under braking.

Front double wishbone design.

Suspension wise, the CL-S6 doesn't break any new ground. It uses the same basic suspension setup introduced on the 98 Accord. A good double-wishbone front (closer to a true double-wishbone than seen on older Integras and Civics) with a sophisticated 5-link rear end. Those who doubt the capability of a suspension designed for the bread and butter family car from Honda, take note - this same geometry and setup was used on the 5th generation Prelude. In the CL-S6, the suspension is tuned to provide a comfortable, damped ride while allowing for good turn in and grip. Unfortunately, the CL-S6 seems to retain relatively small anti-roll bars, allowing for a little too much tilt in corners, although to be fair, bigger bars might cause some head tossing on one wheel bumps and disrupt stability. A big no-no on a GT car like this one.

Rear multi-link design.
