The 1.5T in the 2018 Accord has VTEC!

We're visiting New Hampshire as a guest of Honda to check out the all new 2018 Honda Accord. One of the first things we discovered tonight is that in addition to variable cam phasing (VTC), the Accord's 1.5L Turbocharged engine (which will serve as the base engine for the Accord) features VTEC on the exhaust side of the cylinder head. This differs from the L15BA and L15B7 found in the Honda Civic and CR-V range, which feature VTC but no lift control (VTEC). By adding VTEC to this engine, Honda is able to broaden the torque curve and also help improve boost response.
And for those who are interested in such esoteric items, we learned that the 2.0L turbo engine in the upper spec Accords carries the K20C4 code. It has essentially the same bottom end as the Civic Type R's K20C1, but we understand that it has a smaller turbo, different pistons, and a different cylinder head compared to the mighty 306hp unit that's found in the Civic Type R.
The 1.5L Accord will hit the streets around mid-October, while the 2.0T version will arrive roughly a month later. The Hybrid will find its way into dealerships in the early part of 2018.
More details and photos to come, but we won't be able to share our driving impressions before October 2nd.
