no pun intended :)

Assuming the battery is fully charged, does the engine have to warm up first before it will go in pure/mostly EV mode?

I'm assuming it's the same as the Accord Hybrid, in which case, yes, I do believe the engine has to warm up at first before it will enter the Pure EV mode. I don't know if you can force it to bypass the warmup by pressing the EV button, though.

When Iíve driven my dealerís 2017 HAH EX-L loaner, Iíve observed that the engine will run at a higher idle speed than usual at cold start, and the RPMs donít vary when you put the car into gear!

Conversely, on a warm engine with a charged battery, the car will start up in EV mode! You can start driving when the EV indicator is lit! (I think I babied it through my subdivision the second or third time that happened, and I got a quarter-mile or so out of it before the engine kicked on. On a February day in moderate traffic on the freeway, with ACC set at 74mph and actually following at-speed, the engine shut off for around 3/4th of a mile; at first I thought something was amiss, but no!)

Itís definitely different at first!

How long the battery will last? What's the cost of replacing the main battery?

The HV battery (PCU - power control unit) is covered by a long term warranty (minimum 8 years, 100000 miles, apparently in some states the coverage is longer) so there would be no cost while under warranty.

Beyond that, it's difficult to project the replacement costs 8 years into the future. Currently the HV battery (PCU - 1B000-6L2-A04) is listed at $5116.82, but on a wholesale parts site that I checked it is about $3500. I don't know what the labor costs would be. These battery packs are anything but inexpensive.
