If autonews (via Jalopnik) can be trusted, profit is down for Honda, by a metric lot.

https://jalopnik.com/hondas-not-doing-so-hot-right-now-1832260124

Operating profit dropped to 170.1 billion yen ($1.54 billion) in the fiscal third quarter ended Dec. 31, Honda said on Friday.

Net income plunged 71 percent to 168.2 billion yen ($1.53 billion) in the October-December period. Revenue advanced 0.4 percent to 3.97 trillion yen ($36.01 billion), as worldwide sales increased 4.8 percent to 1.41 million vehicles in the three-month period.

I seriously hope they can strategize better. In the states Honda sales are good, but in Asia they're slowing down. The onslaught of Mitsubishi and Nissan's new collaboration MPV is killing the Mobilio, the only thing they can do is a hefty rebates which makes the Mobilio a true cheap car (used to be quite expensive in its class).

The market for sedans is dropping.
Bring back "tall wagons"... Accord, Civic, TLX...
Honda had to put money to move CRVs.
Honda had warranty issues with the CRV.
HoE is facing Brexit and their supply chain is shaky long term.
Celaya got flooded and production was down for months.

So

Make more variations on the sedan.... make it up by working on manufacturing efficiencies.
The CRV is selling well, address the quality issues.
Offer a 6AT in many models where only a CVT is offered now.
Add an American supply chain to the UK.
Put BIG PUMPS around Celaya.

Honestly, nothing that couldn't be fixed. Unlike GM, Ford and Chryslerini, AHM is doing fine.

Now, HMC in the Far East... well, they've long been out of step. What's the issue over there?

The EU... who cares. Honestly, it's a very ethnocentric place. Perhaps with Brexit, the British will start buying cars made in the UK, not subsidized by the Krauts. Adios BMW, Benz... Hello Honda.

Speaking of tall wagons, when is Honda bringing back the Element?

They finally, almost got it right, with the SC.

Now, if they had had it with a three abreast back seat and painted fenders all along....

We just bought a CRV. Even with it's misses, there's a lot to like. But my next car purchase is about 12-16 months out and will be a wagon. Not an SUV. Hopefully Honda/Acura will have something based on the Accord by then (not a Passport)..
