Road & Track dyno tests 9th gen Accord V6 MT vs 2018 Accord 2.0T 10AT

I came across this link while checking Twitter today and I thought it would be of some interest to TOVers.

The fine gentlemen at Road & Track performed back to back dyno testing on a 2014 Accord V6 6MT coupe and a 2018 Honda Accord Touring.

It is an interesting read, but I have to point out that the numbers that they recorded for the 2.0T are very likely not representative of what we will see when the cars are successfully tested.

As I have performed dyno testing on several different late model Hondas recently, I have come up against some serious challenges each time, at least until we discovered the sequence to enable the "dyno mode" in a few of them. It appears that R&T experienced these same electronic glitches and as a result, they may not have actually managed to record a fully representative dyno run with the 2.0T. In fact, they say they only managed to get a single full pass performed before all of the electronic nannies shut them down.

I had the supposed dyno mode sequence for the Civic Type R and we STILL suffered great difficulty in getting any good runs. We were recording peak figures in the 240-250whp range, while the car was going nuts with error messages. Eventually we somehow managed to fully reset everything and suddenly it was putting down 290hp to the wheels. We faced different challenges with dyno testing the turbocharged 1.5L Civics. I'm not saying the Accord's engine will suddenly find 40-50whp, but there's a good chance it will be a fair bit higher than the 212whp that R&T recorded.

For one thing, these turbocharged engines are extremely sensitive to heat, so it's imperative to stabilize the temperatures of everything between passes. The electronics seem to have some very sensitive parameters which, if tripped, will result in a reduced level of performance.

YMMV.

We are hoping to dyno test a 2018 Accord 10AT this week, but due to the Thanksgiving Holiday (have a great one, y'all!), it may be tough to make it happen. If not, we will do our best to dyno the test a 6-speed 2018 Accord 2.0T Sport as soon as we can get our hands on one.
