In what can best be described as a rough month for automakers, October saw a dip in sales for every major automaker (save for one) in the land.
Of the major automakers, only BMW escaped injury, posting an impressive gain of 22.1% over October of last year, thanks to the success of it's new Mini model. The rest of the major manufacturers ranged from -2.2% (Honda) to -39.6% (Mazda). Of course, I'm leaving out Daewoo's -100% posting, but they don't really count.
On the year, U.S. automakers are slightly off last year's pace, down 2.3% overall. Honda's managed to improve by 2.6%, thanks in part to the impact of new models such as the '03 Pilot and Accord.
