American Honda Posts Record Vehicle and Truck Sales for September

TORRANCE, Calif. 10/01/2004 -- American Honda today reported new all-time record September sales of Honda and Acura cars and light trucks. Total American Honda vehicle sales of 108,470 reflect an increase of 1,818 units over the previous September record set in 2003. On a daily selling rate basis, total sales for the month were down 2.4 percent. All-time record sales of the Honda Pilot and record September sales of the Honda CR-V and Acura MDX led to a new September light truck sales record of 44,271, an increase of 2,289 vehicles over last year's record.
The Honda Division posted September vehicle sales of 92,199 and year-to-date sales of 904,491. Honda Division light truck sales in September broke last year's record with sales of 39,313 - an increase of 1,920 vehicles. The Honda Pilot led the way with its second consecutive month of record sales, up 31.6 percent for the month with sales of 12,388. The CR-V also posted record September sales of 12,068 units, up 2.2 percent from last year.
For its 10th consecutive month of record-breaking sales, the Acura Division posted September results of 16,271, an increase of 21.3 percent over last year and breaking the previous record of 13,417 set in 1988. Year-to-date Acura sales of 146,500 are up 15.6 percent compared to last year. The TL performance luxury sedan posted its 12th consecutive month as Acura's top-selling model with sales of 6,500, surpassing the September 2000 record of 6,032 vehicles and an increase of 70.6 percent from last year. The TSX sports sedan and MDX luxury SUV also had a record-breaking month with sales of 2,825 and 4,958 respectively - both surpassing records set in September 2003.
